planete

Context of the song “Okrutny ocean” (Cruel Ocean) from the album “Na orbitach” (In Orbits)

The song “Okrutny ocean” (Cruel Ocean) was inspired by Stanisław Lem’s science fiction novel “Solaris.” The psychological aspect of “Solaris” completely captivated me. I was intrigued by the relationship between two people, one of whom is the product of an alien life form, created based on the memories of the other. My titular cruel ocean is a large planet-brain that becomes a kind of god, forming beings based on the powerful emotions of the arriving humans. The visitors from Earth are lost in the face of a planet constantly transforming, processing something, shrouded in perpetual fog, with which they cannot communicate verbally, and which tries to connect in a way known only to itself.

I believe this was a novel perspective on alien life, and it continues to fascinate me. In my piece, I decided to explore the theme of a man and a woman connected by this large brain/planet/god.  In the novel, the woman is the product of an alien life form, and the arriving man is her indirect creator, for it is from his memories that the phantom figure of his partner is created. She is a material creation, a human being without memories, a projection of the man’s intense experiences.
